Career Talk @ IIT

In: Career

20 Aug 2009

Ma’am Tikay, the GC invited me to do a career talk. With my desire to go home in La Union, see my former instructors and the IIT staff, visit Ma’am Rocky at DOST-I,  and go to my former boarding house I grabbed to opportunity without even thinking twice .

The Purpose

To inspire the the graduating class of BS Information Technology in IIT, DMMMSU-Mid LaUnion Campus

‘Though I feel that I’m not in the authority to talk about this (I’m not into human resource and psych) I talked about:

  • Job Search
  • Winning Resumé
  • Acing an Interview
  • Power Dressing
  • My Testimonial
    • How did my course, my school, my purpose, my inspiration, my attitude and my faith helped me achieved what I have and where I am now?

I must admit, I felt I talked too much and it was too long but with the fun and interaction with the students and the reaction from them as I speak, I am hopeful that they’ve learned at least few things from it. I hopeful that I was able to impart my experience and I was able to help them as they face the “real world”.

Big thanks to Ma’am Tikay for entrusting the talk; to Director Ed for the support and keep on believing the ability of the Alumni, the CPC and the Batch 2010 for being cooperative.

It was indeed a great time and hopefully to be fruitful one. Fruitful in a way that the students were challenged to prepare themselves and take time to learn more as they start seeking for their jobs. And one day someone will say “Thanks Ate, I learned a lot and this is what I am now”.

To the graduating students, if you have comment on how I delivered, if you need clarification or you have some questions in your mind that probably I can answer, please feel free to give your feedback (positive and negative). This way, I can also improve myself next time I’ll do another talk – maybe not with you, but with others too.
