Anawangin Cove, San Antonio Zambales
March 12, 2010

It was a weekend when I badly needed to unwind, make up my mind and divert my attention to something else plus my desire to see the talk-of-the-town Anawangin Cove brought me to this place.

This was my first time to say “yes” to Mama Jaie to join them in a supposedly three-hour climb that turned to almost seven hours hike. It was also my first time to mingle with the so-called “mountaineers” – understood their reasons why they love mountaineering, got an idea about the tools and gadgets they use.

Some note to those who wants to visit the place

  • There’s no electricity, no hotels or cottages so everyone will be in camping style.
  • Price of goods there is very expensive – Absolute Mineral Water 1 Gl – P150, Candle P25
  • If you plan to hike to reach the cove, make sure to hire a good guide. It’s hard get lost on top of the mountain and go down the rocks where there’s no trail.

There I’ve met really great, cool and interesting guys and gals who made this experience really memorable.

Mama Jaie, without her I didn’t try to do this stuff.

Papa Martz, my first time to mingle with him closely.

Ate Badette, the brave, sweet and hot chick who’s in the same ground with me back then.

Mommy Julie (Ate Badette’s Mom), prepared the yummy foods for the camp.

Ate Jen, made me understand the other side of the world.

Razie, reminded me of protecting the nature and be an advocate of it; assisted me as well in going down when I was so tired, teary and starving.

Kembot (Razie’s girl), truly loves Razie

Pancho (son of Razie and Kembot), cute, innocent, fearless kiddo who was loved by everyone who visited the place.

Sir Thony, the Chef, patiently assisted me to go down the mountain and made me appreciate the joy of mountaineering.

This not-so-easy climb, the “protective legs and arms”, the SUN BURN, the mountains, the rocks, the palm and pine trees, the waves, the conversations, the drinks, the “kebab”, the moon, the walk, the ride, the beauty of the cove made all of you guys and Anawangin a place to remember.

  • Goods there are very expensive. Absolute Mineral water – 1gl costs P150, Joy dish washing liquid sachet P20, The Bar P150

sobrang dali lang pumunta. Just find a friend na mahilig sa mountaineering. Kasi for sure they have the tent, cookset and the like.
