“…it makes me think”, this is my today’s shout out because some people keeps making me think. Then after a good conversation with my boss over lunch, I updated my shout and added “…and I need to think more”.

So what’s the connection of this thought in our life’s choices? I was just delighted with the discussion with my boss and just realized that what happens in our life is always a matter of choice. Either we choose to be the BEST, to be MEDIOCRE or to be the WORST.

If we choose to be the best, we live a life with positive outlook and produce good results. We can inspire other people to also bring out the best in them. We can influence them to think positively as we do. We excel in our endeavors, we grow, we SUCCEED.

In our pursuit to be the best we, we face big challenges. We have to leave our comfort zones and think bigger. We have to face every trials with braveness and perseverance.

If we choose to be mediocre, we’ll just be one of the boys or girls next door.

If we choose to be the worst, some times we achieve, some times not.

…to be continued

The last few weeks, I had chances of meeting with several business-minded people – clients, future clients, future business partners, and the like. I was so amazed on how they think, how they look at things, and how they see business opportunities in every life’s circumstance. I admire how they plan and how they find people to make their plans work and most importantly on how they act on their plans – their attitude, their courage, their perseverance, their way of thinking.

Conversation with these kind of people really disturbs my mind and inspires me to do something. It urges me to start making those plans and dreams a reality. I really learn a lot from their experiences on how they started, how they failed, how they moved forward and how they grew their business. It makes me believe that my ambition to be a “businesswoman” that I’ve written in our year book “The Rising Sun” during high school will soon come true; not so long from now. It gives me the confidence that one of these days, I too, can be one of them.

Our HR officer conducted a training, “One Minute Manager” last Monday to the managers in our company. The training is based on the book One Minute Manager by Kenneth Blanchard. We discussed the three secrets of a One Minute Manager which are:

One Minute Goal Setting

One Minute Praising

One Minute Reprimand

To apply the concept of one-minute goal setting, we were asked to write our goals in less than 250 words. Three things first popped in my mind.

To achieve

To be rich

To be happy

‘Though the three things above are not the one I’ve written in the form that they gave (because my fellow managers were saying that what we need to write are company goals and not personal goals), I still want to share the reasons behind the three.

To Achieve. Achievement spells Accomplishment. And being able to accomplish every single task means achieving a goal or fulfilling a plan. Wherein every employee should achieve every goal being set by the company and by himself. If a person feels accomplished or he feels he’s an achiever, he’ll keep doing things and improving.

To Be Rich. When a company hits its target revenue, this would mean bonus, salary increase, party, celebration and the like. Continuously hitting target revenue makes the company a rich. When the company is rich, then the employees should follow.

To Be Happy. Achieving and being rich isn’t enough. No matter how rich you are and how much you if you’re not happy, it doesn’t make any sense. This means that it is also important to ensure that employees are happy about their work, about their lives.

Simple goals, isn’t it? (oh, I’ve exceeded 250 words )

Ma’am Tikay, the GC invited me to do a career talk. With my desire to go home in La Union, see my former instructors and the IIT staff, visit Ma’am Rocky at DOST-I, and go to my former boarding house I grabbed to opportunity without even thinking twice .

The Purpose

To inspire the the graduating class of BS Information Technology in IIT, DMMMSU-Mid LaUnion Campus

‘Though I feel that I’m not in the authority to talk about this (I’m not into human resource and psych) I talked about:

Job Search

Winning Resumé

Acing an Interview

Power Dressing

My Testimonial

How did my course, my school, my purpose, my inspiration, my attitude and my faith helped me achieved what I have and where I am now?

I must admit, I felt I talked too much and it was too long but with the fun and interaction with the students and the reaction from them as I speak, I am hopeful that they’ve learned at least few things from it. I hopeful that I was able to impart my experience and I was able to help them as they face the “real world”.

Big thanks to Ma’am Tikay for entrusting the talk; to Director Ed for the support and keep on believing the ability of the Alumni, the CPC and the Batch 2010 for being cooperative.

It was indeed a great time and hopefully to be fruitful one. Fruitful in a way that the students were challenged to prepare themselves and take time to learn more as they start seeking for their jobs. And one day someone will say “Thanks Ate, I learned a lot and this is what I am now”.

To the graduating students, if you have comment on how I delivered, if you need clarification or you have some questions in your mind that probably I can answer, please feel free to give your feedback (positive and negative). This way, I can also improve myself next time I’ll do another talk – maybe not with you, but with others too.
