Never drop a hard drive

I accidentally dropped my hard drive and after that incident, it runs really slow when I try to access my files. It takes several minutes before the files are listed and few more minutes for them to open. I tried to read through forums about dropped hard drive and the sad news is that most of them lost data and there is a very less chance to recover.

With all my fear of losing all my files, I rushed to buy an external drive. This time, it’s now shock proof.

Lesson learned: never drop your hard drives because these are mechanical device and will definitely be damaged once dropped.

Perxclub: The First Rewards App in the Philippines

I was privileged to attend the launching of Perxclub through My Life On Board last Monday, Sept. 17 at Decagon, Silver City, Pasig. Together with other bloggers, members of the marketing community and top executives of various merchants we witnessed the unveiling of Perxclub App. It was a night of overflowing tea from Chatime, yummy snacks from Auntie Annie’s Donut, Tater’s, Mrs. Fields, and BTIC among others and a lot of raffle prizes from the Perxclub merchants.

Perxclub is the first rewards app in the Philippines and developed by MobileOptima Inc. It replaces the use of the plastic loyalty cards. It allows customers to earn reward points from various merchants through their very own smart phone (Android and iOS).

Among the partner merchants are the following: http://www.perxclub...

Good Bye PLDT! Hello WiTribe!

WiTribeI recently subscribed to WiTribe to cut cost in internet connection. So far, after almost 24 hours of using it I can say I’m satisfied. Gmail, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Odb.Org plus other websites I browse at the same load fast as expected.  Perhaps it’s because of the fact that we are near Greenhills area and our RSSI is -65dBm and CINR is 27 dB.

For only Php598 per month, subscribers get up to 1Mbps bandwidth. In terms of customer service, that’s something I’ll know in the days to come and my account is completely activated.

PHP Developers Summit 2010

I attended the recently held PHP Summit 2010 at Rembrandt Hotel, Tomas Morato. I never expected that the crowd is as big as it was. I’m glad to have a chance to learn about PHP and ASP.Net Interoperability and Website Scalability.

I also had a good time with my team mates Gibelle and Jeru and happy to meet a friend from Cebu, Raymond.

Congrats to the PHPUG especially to the volunteers for making the event a success.

Forum Matrix: Feature Comparison

I need to implement a web forum. I’m still deciding which among the following open source forums to use:

PHPBB3 - so heavy for a simple forum

Vanilla - very minimal feature

SMF - promising features but I haven’t experienced implementing

Fireboard with Joomla – so heavy that I still have to install complete Joomla CMS just for a forum

I haven’t decided yet. But this site, http://www.forummatrix.org  helped me a lot in the evaluation.
